ボブ・ディランが1965～1966年に行った未発表レコーディング・セッションが『ザ・カッティング・エッジ1965-1966：ザ・ブートレッグ・シリーズ第12集』として遂にリリースされることになった（海外盤は11月6日、日本盤は11月11日に発売）。
同作は『ブリンギング・イット・オール・バック・ホーム』、『追憶のハイウェイ61』、『ブロンド・オン・ブロンド』のセッションから、未発表曲やアウトテイク、リハーサル・トラック、別ヴァージョンなどを収録。国内盤は、高品質BSCD2仕様のCD6枚組デラックス・エディションと、セッションのハイライト楽曲をまとめたCD2枚組ベスト『ザ・ベスト・オブ・ザ・カッティング・エッジ1965-1966：ザ・ブートレッグ・シリーズ第12集』で発売予定。更に5,000セット限定のCD18枚組のウルトラ・デラックス・コレクターズ・エディションが〈BobDylan.com〉のみで発売される。音源はすべてスタジオのトラッキング・テープ原本から純粋な状態でトランスファーとミキシングが行われている。
また、6CDのデラックス・エディションのディスク3には「ライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン」の現存するセッション音源がすべて完全収録。ベストテイクを収めた『ザ・ベスト・オブ・ザ・カッティング・エッジ1965-1966』は12インチのLP3枚組でも発売される。さらに、CD18枚組のエディションには、ロンドンのサヴォイ・ホテル（1965年5月4日）、グラスゴーのノース・ブリティッシュ・ステーション・ホテル（1966年5月13日）、コロラド州デンバーのホテル（1966年3月12日）といった珍しいホテルの部屋での録音や、この時期にリリースされたモノラル録音の45回転アナログ・シングル9作品と『ドント・ルック・バック』のオリジナル映画フィルム・セルが1片が含まれる。
また、CDには豪華ブックレットも付属。何百枚もの未発表写真や、グッズの写真、ビル・フラナガンとショーン・ワイレンツがこのコレクションのために新たに書き下ろしたライナー・ノーツが収録される（日本盤には英文ブックレットを完全翻訳した日本版ブックレットが付属する）。
